Air Products and Chemicals, Inc. (NYSE:APD), a Fortune 500 manufacturer of industrial gases, has an immediate opening for a Sales Engineer in Baton Rouge, LA. 
 
This is a Sales Engineer position in HyCO (hydrogen/carbon monoxide) Americas responsible for account and asset management in the greater Baton Rouge area. The position delivers the customer interface experience to multinational refining and chemical companies through close communication/coordination with the HyCO business and operations teams; and engineering.  The position requires a critical blend of technical, commercial selling and communication skills.
 
The surge in oil and gas production from U.S. shale formations has resulted in lower natural gas prices; and led to refinery and chemical companies evaluating multibillion-dollar investments in new and upgraded facilities along the Gulf Coast creating growth opportunities for HyCO.
 
You will be responsible for all commercial activity at specified accounts.  This includes identifying and qualifying potential clients who have long term requirements for HyCO products, demand forecasting, account planning and strategy development, contract negotiation and administration, customer relationship management, compliance and accounts receivable management. You will also have asset management responsibility for HyCO production facilities with a focus on cost management, reliability and efficiency within specified targets.
 
Principal Accountabilities:
 
  1. Matrix with existing functional and P&L teams to achieve growth objectives.
  2. Defend and grow existing business and identify new opportunities.
  3. Build strong customer relationships with key decision makers including plant operations and facility executives; and lead routine customer interface meetings.
  4. Negotiate and execute complex multi-year supply agreements that meet the commercial requirements of Air Products.
  5. Work with marketing, business management, operations and commercial support functions to execute plans and meet business objectives.
  6. Asset management responsibility for HyCO producing assets ensuring Air Products and customer adherence to defined obligations.
  7. Communicate market intelligence and account updates for customers and markets as necessary.
  8. Participate on business development teams to identify new client opportunities by understanding market drivers and trends and customer initiatives in the refining and chemical space.
Qualifications / Requirements:  
  1. Bachelor’s degree in engineering with an MBA and/or working knowledge of financial analysis concepts preferred.
  2. 5-10 years of experience in the industrial gas, refining or chemical industries would be an advantage but is not essential.
  3. Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
  4. Excellent interpersonal, communication, presentation and facilitation skills; and the ability to succeed through cross functional teams.
  5. Selling/influence/persuasion/closing skills
  6. Experience in developing and maintaining customer relationships at all levels
  7. Creativity and commercial savvy.
  8. Proven ability to handle complex contract negotiations.
  9. Knowledge of financial concepts/models.
