Job Description

ENERCON is currently seeking an experienced Senior Substation Engineer in our Baton Rouge, LA location.  This is a unique and challenging opportunity to lead Power Delivery Division projects to benefit our clients.  The individual selected for this position will have an exemplary background in successfully designing substation engineering projects within the utility industry, be a strategic planner, excellent communicator and have a drive for meeting challenges head on.  This person will maintain a range of responsibilities including substation projects, including protection and control as well as physical design.  This person will assist in completing assignments and work closely with other engineering and design team members to coordinate multiple projects.?

In this role your Key Responsibilities will include:

  • Developing electric substation drawings, including single line diagrams, schematics, wiring diagrams and physical drawings; such as plan views, elevation views, control panel layouts, control building layouts
  • Performing substation design calculations and analysis; such as short circuit stand, ground grid analysis & design, lightning protection, voltage drop and AC & DC station service sizing
  • Work closely with Civil Engineering department to develop substation foundation and structure drawings
  • Develop technical equipment and construction specifications and work scopes
  • Provide on-site technical support for select clients during construction and commissioning, as required
  • Other duties as assigned

As a qualified candidate, you will have the above experience and meet the below requirements:

  • Bachelor's of Science in Electrical Engineering or related discipline
  • 8 + yrs experience in electrical engineering and design
  • Experience with Protection & Controls design, schematic diagrams, grounding, and one-line diagrams
  • Must be proficient with typical office software such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Windows
  • Ability and willingness to travel to clients' construction sites as needed (must possess a valid driver's license, have access to a car and be willing to enter energized electric substations with proper training and PPE); most travel is expected to be within driving distance of the ENERCON office at this time
  • Ability and willingness to work occasional off hours to support clients and/or meet deadlines (including weekends if necessary)
  • Must be self-driven in time management in order to meet deadlines and provide accurate deliverables
  • Must be willing to learn new skills on the job with assistance from the Supervisors, Managers and others in the department
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment and random drug and alcohol screenings 
  • Ability to pass ENERCON and client specific background checks, and annual motor vehicle record (MVR) according to company and client policies
  • Ability to travel between 15-25% of the time; duration of travel length may vary depending on project and client needs, ranging from a few days to a few weeks
