- Purpose of Announcement
EXAMINATION IS ANNOUNCED TO SUPPLEMENT THE EXISTING EMPLOYMENT LIST TO FILL TWO (2) CURRENT WEST JEFFERSON VACANCIES IN THE DEPARTMENT OF JEFFERSON COMMUNITY ACTIONS PROGRAMS - HEAD START.
This employment list will also be used for FUTURE East & West Jefferson vacancies in Head Start.
- Kind of Work
The purpose of this position is to participate in the development and implementation of curriculum and the planning of educational programs at the center level. Employee is responsible for providing initial 5 day orientation and training of newly hired Head Start Teachers, Head Start Assistant Teachers, Early Head Start Teachers, Head Start B-5 Child Care Workers, and Parent Volunteers. Observes and monitors the implementation of the Teaching Strategies Creative Curriculum. Employee supervises the implementation of classroom planned activities. Ensures the parent conferences and home visits are conducted in accordance with the Jefferson Parish Head Start requirements and used to discuss the child's individual development and progress, assist the parents in developing observational skills and solicit parent observations. Employee certifies all licensing requirements are met and the staff complies with these requirements. Position requires driving of a personal vehicle, thus possession of a valid driver's license, acceptable driving record, and personal automobile with minimum liability insurance available for business use (business travel is reimbursed on a mileage basis) will be given preference.
- Minimum Qualifications For Admission to Examination
- Possession of an accredited Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education (ECE) or in an equivalent education major in which the primary focus of study is the care and development of preschool children (i.e., three to five years-of-age); OR Possession of an accredited Bachelor's degree in any major of study, to include at least eighteen (18) credit hours of coursework relating to ECE.*
I. Current employment and permanent civil service status with Jefferson Parish and at least one (1) year of experience working for Jeff CAP Head Start; OR
II. At least one (1) year of post-Bachelor's degree work experience in an early childhood setting with preschool children (i.e., three to five years-of-age).
*NOTE: Coursework relating to ECE may include courses offered in various college departments (e.g., Education, Psychology, Library Sciences, Recreation...etc.) but must address early childhood education or child development, with a focus on children ages three to five years.
Any conviction listed in the Louisiana Child Protection Act (LA R.S. 15:587.1) is considered disqualifying, unless written proof of pardon is submitted in time for consideration with the application.
- Kind of Examination
(ENTRANCE AND PROMOTIONAL)
A rating of training and experience, based upon information on file with the Personnel Department, will serve as 100% of the examination. Applicants must furnish a complete and accurate, detailed description of their work experience, including the names and addresses of all previous employers and the dates of employment. The Personnel Department reserves the right to determine the quality of all training and experience claimed.
