- EXAMINATION IS ANNOUNCED TO ESTABLISH AN EMPLOYMENT LIST TO FILL ONE (1) CURRENT EAST JEFFERSON VACANCY IN THE DEPARTMENT OF LIBRARY AND FUTURE VACANCIES AS THEY OCCUR.
- Kind of Work
The purpose of this position is the maintenance and improvement of existing landscapes at various East and West Jefferson Library facilities. This includes horticultural and supervisory work relating to propagation, growth, improvement, and culture of plant life. Employee supervises and trains laborer in the upkeep and maintenance of all landscaping projects. Supervises and performs the planting and nurturing of shrubbery, flower beds, plants and trees using proven landscape methods and techniques. Employee is responsible for the layout and design of special landscaping projects and the selection of annuals, flowers, and bedding plants. Performs related landscaping work as required to grow and nurture plant life, and to maintain the natural shape of greenery. This position is also an essential, emergency duty status worker and may not be relieved of duty when the Parish President or his designee recommends a voluntary or mandatory evacuation of Jefferson Parish. Position requires driving of a Parish vehicle, thus possession of a valid driver's license and acceptable driving record will be given preference.
- Minimum Qualifications For Admission to Examination
At least two (2) years of formal education at a college or university level with course work in horticulture, plant science or a closely related field.
SUBSTITUTION: Work experience clearly indicating responsibility for the care and/or propagation of a variety of flowers, shrubs, and trees, including the planning and/or propagation of plants, shrubs and flowers to be used on a seasonal basis in landscaping projects, and the supervision of employees working on landscaping projects can substitute for the required education on a year for year basis.

(ENTRANCE AND PROMOTIONAL)
The examination may consist of a written test, a rating of training and experience, an oral panel interview or any combination thereof. Acceptable applicants will be notified of the time, date, and place of any assembled testing. Applicants must supply complete and accurate information concerning their training and experience including a detailed description of their work experience, the names and addresses of all previous employers and the dates of employment. The information is subject to verification and the Personnel Department reserves the right to determine the quality and quantity of education and experience claimed for credit.
