- Purpose of Announcement
EXAMINATION IS ANNOUNCED TO ESTABLISH AN EMPLOYMENT LIST TO FILL ONE (1) CURRENT EAST JEFFERSON VACANCY IN THE DEPARTMENT OF INSPECTION AND CODE ENFORCEMENT.
This employment list may also be used for FUTURE East & West Jefferson vacancies in various Departments.
- Kind of Work
Assists the public by receiving documents submitted and reviews documents for accuracy, compliance with applicable building codes and amendments to the building codes, zoning ordinance and other Code Enforcement procedures and regulations. Reviews application and plans for completeness of information for further processing. Provides office support duties related to the processing and issuance of building permits, conducts zoning review on most permit types, reviews and issues minor permits that do not require a plan review, including but not limited to fence permits, dumpster permits, garage sales, peddler permits, cabinet replacement and replacement of windows. Will be the first point of contact for walk in customers and must be able to determine whether the customer has the necessary documents before meeting with a Plan Reviewer. Issues the permit when approved by a Plan Reviewer and upon proof of payment from the applicant, scan all associated documents, provide a placard and/or any additional documents to the applicant and complete the permitting process. Answers questions and provides information to the public and applicants regarding requirements via e-mail, telephone and walk in. Acts as a liaison between the public and the Building Plan Reviewers and assists the Building Plan Reviewers with other duties.
- Minimum Qualifications For Admission to Examination
- Completion of high school or equivalency; PLUS, at least one (1) year of work experience as a residential general contractor, building construction superintendent, architectural designer/draftsperson, technical inspector, and/or reviewer of residential or commercial construction plans.ORSuccessful completion of at least fifteen (15) semester hours of Civil Engineering, Architecture, Architectural Drawing/Drafting/Design, Construction, Restoration/Renovation, and/or Environmental Technology coursework at an accredited college or university.*
*NOTE: Coursework in Landscape Architecture or Engineering (other than Civil Engineering) are not acceptable.

(ENTRANCE AND PROMOTIONAL)
The examination may consist of a written test, a rating of training and experience, an oral panel interview or any combination thereof. Acceptable applicants will be notified of the time, date, and place of any assembled testing. Applicants must supply complete and accurate information concerning their training and experience including a detailed description of their work experience, the names and addresses of all previous employers and the dates of employment. The information is subject to verification and the Personnel Department reserves the right to determine the quality and quantity of education and experience claimed for credit.
