Overall Job Objective

Purpose of Announcement

EXAMINATION IS ANNOUNCED TO ESTABLISH AN EMPLOYMENT LIST TO FILL ONE (1) CURRENT EAST JEFFERSON VACANCY IN THE WATER DEPARTMENT AND FUTURE VACANCIES AS THEY OCCUR.

Kind of Work

This position is responsible for analysis of environmental samples for inorganic chemicals and trace metals using a gas chromatorgraph, atomic absorption spectophotomer, total organic card analyzer, ion chromatograph, filter phometer, tubidmeter, pH meter and other professional laboratory equipment. Employee will also be responsible for analyzing performance evaluation unknowns within acceptable range and meet all other requirements of State laboratory certification.  Operation of parish vehicle for sample collection, responding to customer complaints or for other purposes as required.  This position is an essential, emergency duty status worker and may not be relieved of duty when the Parish President or his designee recommends a voluntary or mandatory evacuation of Jefferson Parish. Position requires driving of a Parish vehicle, thus possession of a valid driver's license and acceptable driving record will be given preference.

Minimum Qualifications For Admission to Examination

Applicants must meet one (1) of the following:

1. Possession of a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry from a college or university accredited by the American Chemical Society.

2. Possession of at least a Master's degree in Chemistry from an accredited college or university.

3. Possession of a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or Bio-Chemistry from an accredited college or university which includes successful course work in Quantitative and Instrumental Analysis, Organic and Physical Chemistry.

Kind of Examination

(ENTRANCE AND PROMOTIONAL)

This examination will consist of a rating of training and experience, weighted 100%.
