- This vacancy is located within the Nursing Department at Eastern Louisiana Mental Health System in Jackson, LA (East Feliciana Parish). ELMHS is the largest 24-hour, multi-site, state psychiatric complex, comprised of residential, outpatient and inpatient services.

The position may be filled as either a Probational or Job Appointment (open to all qualified applicants); a promotion (open to all statewide classified and Agencywide permanent status employees); by Detail to Special Duty; or as a part-time, temporary WAE. Current permanent status, classified employees may be required to accept a Probational appointed if selected. If filled as a Job Appointment, there is a possibility that this position may be converted to a Probational Appointment should funding become available.
**The incumbent in this position will work a 36 hour weekend shift (Friday, Saturday, Sunday OR Saturday, Sunday, Monday).**

Special Entrance Rate (SER) of Pay based on years of experience as a licensed LPN:
PREMIUM PAY (per HOUR physically worked):
$3.00 for working at ELMHS as a Specialty Unit.
SHIFT DIFFERENTIALS (per HOUR physically worked):
Shift Diff 2nd Shift - $2.50
Shift Diff 3rd Shift - $3.50
Weekend Shift Diff - $2.00
Weekend Shift Diff 2nd - $3.00
Weekend Shift Diff 3rd - $4.00
Holiday Shift Diff - $2.50
Holiday Shift Diff 2nd - $4.00
Holiday Shift Diff 3rd - $4.50
Weekend Holiday Shift Diff - $3.00

- MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Possession of a temporary permit, license or a multi-state license issued by a Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC/eNLC) to practice practical nursing in Louisiana.

Function of Work:
To provide basic nursing care to patients/clients in stable conditions and in predictable situations in accordance with the Professional Nurses Practice Act.
Level of Work:
Close from a Registered Nurse or Practical Nurse of a higher level.
May exercise functional supervision over paraprofessional nursing personnel.
Location of Work:
Statewide--health care facilities; correctional facilities.
Differs from Practical Nurse--Licensed, 2 by the absence of journeyman level assignments and independent performance of duties.
- Examples of Work
Implements selective aspects of the nursing care plan, i.e., comfort, hygiene, safety measures, nutrition, etc. under progressively more generalized supervision from a Registered Nurse or Practical Nurse of a higher level.
Observes patients for changes in physical and/or mental status or behavior and reports significant changes.
Obtains specimens for laboratory testing as assigned.
Takes vital signs including temperature, pulse, respiration, and blood pressure.
Administers medication and treatments in accordance with policies and procedures.
Transcribes physicians' orders and records medication and patient's condition on patient's charts and other records.
Receives and gives change of shift reports.
Requests stock drugs, medications, and supplies as assigned.
Administers CPR in emergency situations.
Admits, transfers, and discharges patients.
Gathers information about patient's past and current physical and mental status.
May administer oral and parenteral medication as prescribed by the physician and documents procedure.
Applies dressings, ointments, and other treatments as ordered and documents procedure.
Assists physicians with routine examinations and treatments.
Bathes, feeds, and makes patients comfortable.
Performs individual and group health teaching as assigned.
