- MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Possession of a United States Coast Guard Engineer's License for a motor ferry vessel appropriate to the location assigned plus two years of experience involving work in a marine engine room.NOTE:
Possession of a current Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) must accompany license when required by the US Coast Guard for duties performed.

- FUNCTION OF WORK:To accomplish engine room and machinery operation on board an inspected state owned marine vessel as defined by U.S. Coast Guard regulations.LEVEL OF WORK:Experienced.SUPERVISION RECEIVED:Direct from a Marine Master or equivalent level supervisor.SUPERVISION EXERCISED:None.LOCATION OF WORK:Primarily the Department of Transportation and Development, but use by other agencies may be considered on a case-by-case basis.JOB DISTINCTIONS:Differs from Marine Engineer 1 by the presence of full performance engineering duties.

- EXAMPLES LISTED BELOW INCLUDE BRIEF SAMPLES OF COMMON DUTIES ASSOCIATED WITH THIS JOB TITLE. PLEASE NOTE THAT NOT ALL TASKS ARE INCLUDED.Assumes responsibility, on an assigned shift, for the operation and routine maintenance of engine room and machinery aboard an inspected marine vessel (such as main propulsion diesel engines, main electrical generating plants, hydraulic systems, sanitation systems, pumping systems, electrical and lighting systems).Maintains required engineering logs and records and makes reports.Assumes responsibility for safe refueling operations.
